MINOR DIFFERENCES chronicles the eighteen-year journey of five former juvenile offenders from their mid-teens to adulthood. This multi-platform media project, combines digital media products, emerging distribution technologies, and community action partners to clearly demonstrate the way prison transforms these juveniles.
The primary project component is a feature length documentary based on powerful life stories that vividly illustrate the subjects’ transformation from misguided adolescents into tough and disheartened misfits. Oaksen’s 18-year connection to the young men forms the foundation for the project. She interviewed these individuals in her documentary completed in 1999. Gulf: A Portrait Series was both a 92-minute video as well as a five-channel media installation that recorded their lives over a five-year period. Visit the film website at www.minordifferences.com
